Beaver Dam Service Area
Beaver Dam, Kentucky
This facility on the Western Kentucky Parkway accommodates fueling facilities, a convenience store, two restaurants, and souvenir sales.

The building beckons to passing motorists with an evocative expression of travel - the canted stance of the exposed roof structure expresses the dynamic of movement. The curved roof, starting high and ending low, establishes major and minor entries, one for car and the other for truck drivers. The form is inspired by sails and the canvas of Conestoga wagons, which passed this way 150 years ago.

Site development included extensive landscaping, playgrounds, picnic tables, a gazebo, and a dog walk, providing for a truly restful visit.
