The owners of Phil Dunn's Restaurant gave us three objectives for this interior remodeling project: radically alter the psychology of the restaurant interior; add a bar; and substantially increase seating for dining. This had to be accomplished with minimal disruption to the operation, which is open from early morning to late night. The owners also requested a curved bar.
We used the geometry of the semicircular bar to generate spatial subdivisions throughout the facility. A distinct entry space uses a bank of custom wine cabinets to screen the bar area from the main dining space, and separate dining zones allow patrons to enjoy a sense of intimacy within the context of a large facility.
All interior finishes were completely reworked, replacing a black and white checkered 'cafe' motif with a robust and warm European flavor. The beautifully detailed bar and the bank of custom wine cabinets greet patrons at the entry and set the tone for a memorable dining experience.
